Went in for a thermostat and they drained my oil, nearly destroying my motor.

A year ago I gave this place a five star rating on another site.

However, my last experience was awful and almost catastrophic.

In January I brought my car there because I wasn't getting heat and told them I thought I needed a thermostat. They said they couldn't make that determination without looking at it which was perfectly understandable. So I brought it in and they called me and said it was the thermostat. The cost was nearly $400 for it and I told him to go ahead. Then they called me again and said they wanted to keep it to make sure it warmed up from a cold start and I said that was fine. They called me to tell me there was still a problem and that I needed a water pump which would cost nearly $1100. I told them to forget about that and that I would just pick the car up. I paid for the thermostat and they were nice enough to give me a discount.

There was nobody there when I picked it up and they left the keys outside for me. When I started the car, the engine made an awful sound I'd never heard before and lights came on the dashboard I'd never seen before, including check hybrid system.

The car made it home, but it wouldn't start again after that. I called and told the owner about these problems. He said it was nothing that they did and that they didn't touch anything besides the thermostat.

He said they don't even deal with hybrid systems, but he kindly offered to have it towed to the dealership to let them inspect it, and if the dealership determined they did anything wrong, he would cover it but if they didn't, then I would have to cover all costs, including the tow.

My car is a 2011 with 170,000 miles on it. Though it didn't seem likely that this is all just a weird coincidence, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and didn't want to be on the hook for dealership costs, and a tow, in addition to still needing water pump.

So my car sat for well over a month. I needed to do something about the car and recently texted G&G again about them going ahead and changing the water pump believing they did that work and what happened was just a crazy coincidence. I made excuses for them, telling myself that the bitter January cold, coupled with my car's age and mileage made these problems not such a crazy coincidence.

I texted on Thursday asking when I could bring it in but didn't get a response.

On Saturday I had another mechanic come to my house to look at my car.

There was no oil in my car! Bone dry.

The mechanic who came to my house said there were no leaks, the car wasn't burning oil, and it wasn't mixing oil either.

I sent videos to G&G of the mechanic, filling my car with oil and what he said but got no response.

The only reason I'm giving them two stars instead of one is that the owner did offer to have it towed to the dealership in January and to cover costs if it was determined to be their fault.

Lucky for G&G my battery was starting to go bad, according to the mechanic, which explains why it wasn't starting on its own. Now that was a coincidence. Had it not been for that the engine would have seized.

But don't tell me nothing was done to my car besides changing the thermostat.

So far it has been a pretty decent experience. They have a whole list of items to check on with just a basic oil change. I did call ahead to save a spot for myself but I managed to get in right away. Price wasn't bad for the oil change. Very reasonable for the location. Good/friendly people and locally owned/operated. First time here but I will probably come back depending on what I need next time.

We have taken our 2010 Honda Fit here for years. Friendly and very very honest. Once our car would not start, seemed like a starter or alternator to me (what do I know?) Well there was not a problem other than possible water in gas or car sitting too long. Because we were out of town, the car was at G&G for a week. When we picked it up, he refused to charge us for diagnostics. Wow.

The reason I gave two stars is because of the people who work there. They are extremely respectful and friendly. Sorry, but their work is not the same, from the oil change to the cylinder head gasket, they were okay for a few months, after which each one failed again.
I decided not to go there anymore, I left a lot of money without solving the problems.
1. oil change - they put 5w-30 oil instead of 10w-30 full synthetic
2. the front headlight, newly changed, comes out
3. cylinder head gasket, the oil leaks, after 4 months it is leaking again.
4. Front brakes, They changed them twice in a month, then I had to go to another mechanic because they were making a terrible noise
