Not a bad day in a very imperfect system. Arrived at 7:40am on a Saturday in mid June. Inspections don’t begin till 8am btw. 6 cars in a single line followed by a street side cone stating “CLOSED”. I drove away (as suggested online) to do other errands and returned at 8:20am to find 5 cars in line a space for me. The inspectors are very pleasant & professional. My car was taken into the bay along with my registration and $35. 15-20 minutes or so later I was invited to take my car from the bay with a new sticker.

The State really should create an island inspection station that can take some of the pressure off of the Don Allen station. The state & island taxes are surely substantial enough to cover it. Taxing folks who can afford to send minions to do it for them tells me the money is there. 😉

Place is a mess. Long lines, not enough room to park for larger trucks and vans, new vehicles for sale are in the way, no phone service, no capabilities to make a reservation for a specific date and time like on the mainland, waste of valuable time. Technicians seem helpful and efficient.

An hour and a half, two hours in line is a little excessive. This isn't a coment on the help the help is been doing the best they can.

Slow. They make everyone leave for an hour at lunch so they can make space and time for "preferred" customers. Sad there isn't an alternative inspection station on the island.

For an inspection, go early and I mean before they even open at 7:30 to get in line or you will be there a long long time. If you get there later, you might have to bring a sleeping bag and a meal. Bring a book to read. It's not their fault, but there's so many people needing to get their car inspected that's the reason.
